Lutheran Social Services of Alaska is a non-profit social service agency providing aid to low-income individuals and families throughout Alaska. Located in midtown Anchorage, our offices and food pantries serve hundreds of clients every week. Many of our clients live in desperate conditions: some have to make choices between heating their homes or paying for life-sustaining medications, many do not have the funds to purchase enough food, some have no roof over their head, and others suffer from substance abuse, medical issues, or mental health issues. As a partner of the United Way of Anchorage, we gain the opportunity to join with other agencies in addressing urgent human needs throughout the state of Alaska. We are also a member of the Lutheran Services in America, one of largest health and human service organization networks in
the nation.

Challenge Alaska
Challenge Alaska has served more than 1,000 individuals living with disabilities every year. We serve people with any disability or co-occurring disabilities, and people of all ages. We have four major program areas:
-

-
Raven: These are programs for people living with cognitive or developmental disabilities. These include special hockey, camping & backpacking, fishing trips, hiking, water sport and overnight summer camps.
-
Warrior: These are programs for Veterans living with disabilities. Veterans are welcome to participate in any of our programs, but warrior programs are specifically for them. Warrior programs include cycling, a huge hockey presence with over 80 players, biathlon, and golf.
-
Adaptive Ski & Ride School: This program is for people of all ages, living with any disabilities. The school operates from November-April and serves more than 600 people annually.
Challenge Alaska never turns away any participants for lack of ability to pay program fees.

Love, INC
Love In the Name of Christ of the Kenai Peninsula is an inter-denominational Christian organization that works with churches and agencies in the area to assist our neighbors in need.
We are a “Clearinghouse” for agencies and church ministries on the Peninsula. What that means is when a person with a specific need calls our office, we gather information and try to direct them to the available resource, whether that is an agency like the Food Bank or a Church Ministry like a clothes closet. Many times there is a need for our client and a resource is not available or they do not qualify for other services. At this time, we have a set of parameters to determine if we should solicit assistance from a church near the person or from their preferred denomination. This is called filling the gap. Sometimes our assistance is simply listening to the person’s problem, demonstrating care, and offering prayer.

iDE is a global team of 1,200 changemakers coming from diverse backgrounds within international development and the private sector. What we all have in common is the belief that one entrepreneur can change their community and millions can change the world.
We are driven to end poverty but we don’t do simple handouts of supplies or cash. Instead, we believe that everyone has the ability to increase their livelihoods and build long-term resilience by their own accord. They may just need training or connections to suppliers and customers. That’s where we come in and what we mean when we say we are “powering entrepreneurs to end poverty.”
UNICEF works across more than 190 countries and territories, to reach the most disadvantaged children and adolescents – and to protect the rights of every child, everywhere. We do whatever it takes to help children survive, thrive and fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence.

The world’s largest provider of vaccines, we support child health and nutrition, safe water and sanitation, quality education and skill building, HIV prevention and treatment for mothers and babies, and the protection of children and adolescents from violence and exploitation.

Before, during and after humanitarian emergencies, UNICEF is on the ground, bringing lifesaving help and hope to children and families. Non-political and impartial, we are never neutral when it comes to defending children’s rights and safeguarding their lives and futures.
And we never give up.
